| Evelyn "Eve" Rogers, only child of Sarah and Joseph Rogers, was born July 4th, 1918 in Manhattan but grew up in Brooklyn. She was sickly as a child and all through early adulthood. Her original aspirations were to become an artist but when America got involved in World War II, she wanted nothing more than to enlist. Of course, as a frail woman pretending to be a man, she was rejected multiple times until Doctor Abraham Erskine helped forge papers and she was finally able to enlist under the alias "Steven Rogers." Quickly proving to be a perfect candidate for a project to enhance humans via a serum to create an ideal soldier, she was ushered off to become said soldier. Before confusion could settle in when she emerged from the chamber obviously physically very feminine, panic settled in as a mole tried to steal the rest of the serum. Evelyn chased him down, found out about some evil organization named HYDRA, etc. The project was shelved and a "Captain America" persona was created so she could tour in a USO show and sell war bonds. During this time, comic books and movies were made and her role was basically delegated to kissing babies. But one night, she was informed that most of the men in her best friend Bucky's unit had not returned, so her friends Peggy and Howard (who was kind of shocked and amused to find that anyone had believed Eve was a man) helped her to go save Bucky. For this act, she was allowed to actually serve as a soldier and lead an elite group known as the Howling Commandos to overtake the villain Red Skull and his organization HYDRA. After a final fight with Red Skull, Eve found herself in a pretty bad position and decided to crash the plane she was in into some ice to keep the plane's attached missiles from destroying entire cities. The last thing she did before going under was make a date to dance with Peggy, who she decided was the right partner. Evelyn was defrosted in 2012 and I'm too lazy to write up a summary of The Avengers. Nothing in The Avengers changes. Character is Marvel's. PB is Brit Marling. Drawing by self. |
